Can Berries Help You Live Longer?

We May Get More Than Enjoyment From Our Beloved Berries

If recent findings from Finland are any indication, we may be getting more than enjoyment from the berries we grow. It seems that berries can actually help us live longer if we eat them every day. Want to know more? Here's some interesting berry information...

A Berry a Day...

Forget about apples. It seems that a handful of berries everyday really can help keep the doctor away. By consuming certain berries on a daily basis, you can increase your HDL cholesterol (the "good" cholesterol) and prevent blood clots and other ailments from developing.

If you're at risk of heart disease, you really might want to consider adding more berries to your diet. Strawberries, raspberries and blueberries are all shown to have a positive impact on HDL cholesterol levels and increased cardiovascular health.

Could Life Get Any Better?

Think that it's great news that berries help increase cardiovascular health? How about adding some chocolate into the mix?

If you thought that chocolate-covered berries were a sinful indulgence, guess again. Chocolate also has a beneficial impact on heart health. Dark chocolate is rich in anti-oxidants. Dip those strawberries in a bit of dark chocolate and you're doing your heart good.

Of course, you don't want to go overboard. Dark chocolate should be consumed in moderation. You don't want to douse your handfuls of berries in chocolate each day.

So let's enjoy the good news! Those chocolate-covered strawberries you were thinking about for Valentine's Day? They're good for the heart in more ways than one! Talk about a winning combination!
