Strawberry shortcake is simply delicious, no matter how you make it. Texas-style strawberry shortcake is truly unique.

Berry Jerry’s strawberry shortcake Texas-style…

To make Texas style strawberry shortcake, you make home-made biscuits, let them cool, split each biscuit and fill it with strawberry filling, top the biscuit with strawberry filling and whipped cream, and garnish the top with a fresh strawberry half.

Here is the recipe for the biscuits, the strawberry filling and the whipped cream for Texas-style strawberry shortcake.

Preheat the oven to 450 degrees.

Biscuits for Texas-style strawberry shortcake:

Sift together 2 cups of flour, 4 teaspoons of baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda and 1/2 teaspoon of salt. Cut in 1/4 cup of vegetable shortening using a pastry cutter. Add 1 cup of buttermilk and mix it up until you have a soft dough.

Flour the surface of a countertop or bread board and place the dough on the floured surface. Press the dough out until it is about 1/4 inch thick. Use a biscuit cutter (I prefer an empty baking powder can) to cut the biscuits out. Place them on an ungreased cookie sheet or a stoneware baking dish and bake them for about 12 minutes until they are browned. After the biscuits are cooled, slice each one to prepare them for the strawberry shortcake filling.

Filling for Texas-style strawberry shortcake:

Wash and slice your fresh strawberries. Add 1 cup of sugar for every 3 cups of berries. Let the prepared berries sit in the fridge until you are ready to use them.

Fun Fact: Whipped cream made with heavy cream retains its texture longer than whipped cream made with light whipping cream.

Whipped topping for Texas-style strawberry shortcake:

Make whipped topping according to the recipe on a carton of whipping cream.

Fill the biscuits with the strawberry shortcake filling, place a bit of the filling on the top of each biscuit. Top each strawberry shortcake with whipped cream and garnish each strawberry shortcake with 1/2 of a fresh strawberry.
