The Importance of Greenhouse Humidification

How to achieve greenhouse humidification to liven up your berry patch!

Greenhouse humidification is one of those things that people often overlook when growing berries in greenhouses. Remember, the purpose of a greenhouse is to control the climate and mimic the berries’ natural growing conditions. So, greenhouse humidification is important.

Berry Jerry discusses greenhouse humidification…

The most important thing you need to know about greenhouse humidification is that the greenhouse should not get too hot or too cold. A greenhouse that is too hot will dry your berry plants out. If too cold, the berry plants may freeze which will kill them and keep them from producing.

In climates where it gets cold, greenhouse heaters may be needed, especially at night. That’s a no brainer.

The factor that is often not considered is that a greenhouse can actually get too hot. Heat dries out moisture and moisture is required for berry plants to flourish. Greenhouse humidification will ensure that the greenhouse doesn’t get too hot and that sufficient moisture is maintained in the soil and the air enabling the berry plants to grow and to produce.

To achieve proper greenhouse humidification that is conducive to growing berries, the ground in the greenhouse needs to be kept damp. Of course you don’t want a slushy, muddy mess on your greenhouse floor. To keep the ground damp without just flooding it, you can use a misting system.

Did you know? Humidity is the amount of moisture or water vapor in the air. A psychrometer is an instrument used to measure humidity.

Misting systems release a mist that will settle on the floor of the greenhouse keeping it damp without making it muddy. This constant moisture will rise with the heat creating greenhouse humidification that will prevent your berry plants from drying out and dying.
