Why The Acai Berry May Be The Most Powerful Berry on the Block
You Can't Grow This Berry, But You Might Want to Buy It
Usually this blog is dedicated to growing berries from home all year long. However, I've been a big fan of a certain type of berry (the acai berry) for many years now and I feel a bit remiss that I haven't shared this fantastic fruit with you before. So even though it's not practical to grow a 100-foot palm tree to get this great berry, I'm going to tell you why you might want to buy it from the stores.
Why Are Acai Berries So Special?
So why am I so gung-ho about Acai berries? Well, first of all they pack a huge punch. You think goji berries have a ton of anti-oxidants? Acai berries have more. Lots more. And they have Omega 6, Omega 9 AND protein and fiber. What more could you ask for?
Forget Fresh
Unfortunately, Acai berries are only grown in the rain forest and they're very perishable. This means you're not going to find them at your local supermarket. However, you can buy dried acai berries or supplements that have the powdered form.
Word to the Wise
If you do decide to take an Acai supplement with the powdered form of the berry, make sure you know what you're getting. Not all supplements are created equal and some have very little acai in it. Your best bet is to get pure acai powder (berries that have been freeze dried and powdered) and add it to smoothies or your drinks.
So while fresh acai berries may be impossible to get and pure freeze dried versions may be hard to find, the health benefits of this powerful fruit are well worth the effort.
