10 unique things you can do with blueberries

Blueberries are undoubtedly one of the most delicious and versatile fruits. Blueberries are also very good for you and are incredibly valuable as a health food because they are powerful antioxidants.

Berry Jerry’s favorite blueberry ideas…

Blueberries are just lip-smacking good, so it is really great that blueberries are also healthy. They are one of my favorite snacks and I love the many different things that you can do with blueberries. Ten of my favorite ideas for blueberries are:

1. Fresh snacks

Blueberries are great in dishes, but I really love to eat blueberries fresh right off the bush.

2. Blueberry pie

Blueberries make wonderful pies and blueberry pie is one of the wonderful dessert options that many people overlook. On holidays, people bake many pies, but rarely blueberry, so blueberry pie is a pretty good gift idea to give to your hostess at a holiday party.

3. Blueberry cobbler

Cobblers made from blueberries are more common than blueberry pie. For some reason, blueberries just seem ideal for baking cobblers.

4. Blueberry smoothies

The Mrs. and I love to put blueberries in the blender with ice, a little milk or cream and a touch of sugar. Sometimes we toss in a banana for texture. Smoothies made from blueberries are great for breakfast, brunch, or for a mid-day snack.

5. Fruit salad

Most fruit salad recipes call for things like apples, bananas, raisins, coconut, mandarin oranges and so forth. Adding blueberries to any fruit salad makes a pretty unique dish.

6. Blueberry sauce

Substituting blueberries for cherries in recipes with cherry sauce shakes things up a bit and makes old recipes new and exciting as well as incredibly healthy.

Did you know? Research has indicated that blueberries are effective for the prevention of short-term memory loss.

7. Blueberry ice cream

When you make home-made vanilla ice cream, you can add some blended blueberries to the mixture before freezing it for a nice treat.

8. Blueberry ice cubes

Blueberry ice cubes are mixed with 7-Up or ginger ale to be served as a punch. To make the ice cubes, liquefy the blueberries in a blender with some sugar and a little lemon juice and pour the mixture into ice trays.

9. Blueberry sorbet

To make a blueberry sorbet, you can blend blueberries, sugar and water in a blender until it has a thick texture. Pour the mixture into a freezer-safe container and freeze it. Then, scoop the mixture using an ice cream scoop. This is a nice, refreshing summertime treat.

10. Blueberry cheesecake

Of course, blueberries can be used to make pie filling which is great for topping cheesecake. Fresh blueberries also make wonderful cheesecake topping.
